EPDM flat roofs are known for their durability, flexibility and long lifespan, but like any roofing system, they can still develop problems over time. Damage around joints, edge details, old patch repairs or trapped moisture can all lead to leaks and reduced performance.
In this recent project in Bristol, we carried out a professional EPDM flat roof repair to restore the roof’s waterproofing and improve its overall condition. Below is a step-by-step look at the repair process and the work involved.
Initial Roof Inspection
The first step was to inspect the flat roof carefully and identify the source of the problem. The roof showed signs of wear and severe water damage, with visible weak points in some of the detailing and areas where water could potentially penetrate the surface.

Preparing Roof Surface for EPDM Installation
Before carrying out the repair, the roof surface had to be properly prepared. Any dirt, loose debris and surface contamination were removed to create a clean working area and help ensure correct adhesion of the repair materials.
Good preparation is one of the most important parts of any EPDM roof repair, as poor surface preparation can reduce the lifespan of the repair. Before installing the EPDM membrane, the roof surface was fully prepared to provide a clean, level and secure base. With the OSB board in place and the membrane positioned ready for fitting, this stage helped ensure a smooth installation and a durable waterproof finish.
Once the roof surface had been fully prepared, we moved on to installing the EPDM membrane. The sheet was carefully positioned across the roof area and adjusted to ensure the correct fit before the final fixing stages began.

Final Checks and Finished Result
After completing the repair, we carried out final checks to make sure the repaired section was secure, neat and fully sealed. The aim was not just to patch the roof, but to provide a professional repair that would extend the life of the existing EPDM system.
The finished roof was left with improved weather protection, a cleaner finish and a much more reliable waterproof layer.
